Childhood obesity is one of the most serious health problems of the XXI century. The problem is global and it affect progressively many countries. There are an estimated 42 million overweight children in 2010 in around the world, of which about 35 million live in developing countries.
Before, obesity was a problem for adults, but now is increasingly affecting children. Obesity in childhood compromises the health of children and currently can be diagnosed with other problems such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol levels. Apart from these physical conditions, children can develop psychological problems. Jokes, bullying or rejection by their "friends", can bring them to have low self-esteem.
Consequences of obesity in children:
- Problems with the bones and joints
- Difficulties in developing a sport or other physical exercise because of the shortness of breath and fatigue.
- Sleep disturbances
- Premature maturity. Obese girls can enter before puberty, have irregular menstrual cycles, etc.
- High blood pressure, cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease
-Etc.
According to experts, obesity when it manifests in childhood and persists into adolescence, and not treated in time, it probably will creep into adulthood.
